Newmarket-on-Fergus native Gearoid McMahon, a member of Shannon Athletic Club, has had a very successful Race Walking season. Gearoid is the current Munster and All-Ireland U15 Indoor and Outdoor Champion and has broken both the Munster Indoor and Outdoor records in 2014 as well as setting a new National Indoor record in Athlone. Attending St Caimins community school Shannon, Gearoid won the North Munster, Munster and All-Ireland schools titles for which he was rewarded by representing his school in the Tailteann Games. The season was finished off by winning the England 3A’s Championships where Gearoid travelled as part of an eight strong Irish Race Walking Team. Gearoid is very fortunate to have benefited from the expertise of World Champion Rob Heffernan at his Race Walking Academy in Cork during the year and is very grateful for his guidance. Gearoids ambition is to qualify for the European Youths Championships in 2017.

A leaving cert student in St Patrick’s Comprehensive, James from Newmarket on Fergus has excelled in the field of mountain biking. James came second place in the European Marathon Mountain Bike Championships in 2014 and 4th overall in the MPS series 2014. We look forward to following his exciting career

Sabrina McCarthy is a 4th year student in St Caimins Secondary School Shannon. An outstanding soccer player Sabrina played with the Munster U-15 school girls in 2013. She received her Irish Cap for the Irish U-15 School Girls in 2014 and is on the Clare up coming U-16 talent. Sabrina hopes to make the girls U-16 Irish panel later his year.

Joanne Potter from Clarecastle is a third year student in St Caimins, Shannon. Joanne took up Taekwon-Do ten years ago and received her 1st Degree black belt in June 2013. Representing Ireland at Junior level, Joanne won SILVER in the European Taekwon-Do Championships this year in the -55 kilo sparring in Riccione, Italy. At the World Taekwon-Do championships last October in Benidorm, Spain she won GOLD as a member of the Junior Ladies Team in sparring and gold as a member of the Junior Ladies Team in the team patterns. Joanne has several other national titles over the years. In October 2014 Joanne will travel to Budapest, Hungary for the European Cup in preparation for the World Taekwon-Do Championships in Venice, Italy in May 2015.

19 year old Karl Fitzmaurice just graduated from St.Patricks Comprehensive School in 2014 and is hoping to study Sport Science in Athlone institute of Technology. Karl’s sport of choice is Athletics in particular long distance track and cross country Hi highest Ranking was 1st in national u19 3000m steeplechase and has a PB/handicap of 9:02 Later this year Karl hopes to represent Ireland in the European Junior Cross Country Championships. Trials will be taking place on November 23rd. Karl’s long term goal is to represent my country in the 10000m in the 2024 or 2028 Olympic Games. Karl has also won 11 national medals in athletics ranging from senior track and field (Clare Team) to juvenile individual and 4 Munster cross country titles.

17 year old Aron plays minor hurling with Clare and is a member of Wolfe Tones Club playing from minor to senior level. Aron made his debut for Clare minor hurling team against Waterford in cusack park in April 2014. Aron currently attends St Caimins Community School Shannon and is going into Leaving cert this year.

15 year old Lisa is a member of Shannon Golf Club and playing golf since she was 2 years old. Lisa has been capped for the Munster Interprovisional girls U-18 team 4 times and this year received her first cap for the Ladies Senior Interprovisional team. Lisa currently attends St Patricks Comprehensive Shannon.
